As a holistic nutritionist, I have always had a deep interest in the relationship between nutrition, lifestyle and our overall wellbeing. I believe that understanding our bodies and the way we care for them is an important part of taking responsibility for our health. I am continually interested in learning, exploring new perspectives and listening to people who challenge us to think differently about how we live.
That is why I was so interested in attending A Journey of Healing with Barbara O’Neill, a series of public talks taking place in Dublin this October.
Barbara shared a lot of information on topics ranging from nutrition, digestion and hormones to mental wellbeing, heart health, sleep and the body's natural processes. What struck me most was her emphasis on how the everyday choices we make can influence our wellbeing - and how easily we can overlook the simple foundations of good health.

I came away with so much to reflect on.
Here are the 5 key takeaways that stood out to me most.
1. Nutrition: Give Your Body the Building Blocks It Needs
Barbara emphasised the importance of nourishing the body through whole, nutrient-rich foods and making mindful choices every day. Specifically, the importance of Protein, fats, and minerals stood out the most during the talk.
2. Hydration, Sleep & Movement: Return to the Basics
Our everyday habits can have a significant impact on our overall wellbeing. Barbara highlighted three essential foundations:
3. Gut Health: Feed Your Gut Well
A healthy digestive system supports nutrient absorption, digestion and immune function. Nutrition and lifestyle choices can help support gut health.
4. Brain Health, Mental Wellbeing & Hormones
Barbara explored how everyday habits, nutrition and lifestyle can contribute to our physical and mental wellbeing.
Barbara also shared her SUSTAIN ME framework, highlighting sunshine, use of water, sleep, trust in God, abstinence, inhalation, nutrition, moderation and exercise as lifestyle considerations in her approach to wellbeing.
One particularly memorable message was the importance of examining our daily habits rather than repeating the same actions and expecting different results.
5. Create the Right Conditions for Your Body to Thrive
The biggest takeaway probably was the importance of consistency, self-awareness and creating supportive conditions for our bodies.
Small, consistent choices can make a meaningful contribution to our overall wellbeing. Becoming more aware of our daily habits is a valuable first step towards caring for ourselves more intentionally.
I left the event with a lot to think about and appreciation for the role everyday habits play in our wellbeing. As someone with an interest in holistic nutrition and bodywork, I am always curious about the connections between what we eat, how we move, how we rest and how we feel.
What stayed with me most was the reminder not to overlook the foundations. We do not need to make everything complicated. Sometimes the most valuable starting points are drinking enough water, eating nourishing food, getting sufficient sleep, moving our bodies and paying attention to the signals they give us.
Every person is different, and nutrition and lifestyle practices cannot replace medical assessment or treatment when these are needed. But I believe there is real value in becoming more informed, asking questions and making thoughtful choices about how we care for ourselves.
At White Willow, this whole-person perspective is an important part of my approach to wellbeing. Our bodies deserve care, attention and patience, not just when something feels wrong, but every day.
My invitation to you is simple - start by becoming more aware of the small choices you make each day. What is one thing you could change to support your wellbeing?
Sometimes, that is where a meaningful journey begins.
