MY VIEW ON AGEING

Ageing is by far the most spoken about topic in the beauty industry. It’s a multi-billion dollar industry. It is impossible to watch TV without seeing numerous ads claiming how their product can reduce the signs of aging in the best way, and retail outlets stores are bombarded with products on every stall. When you walk into stores, you don’t know which way to turn, where to start and who to trust, not understanding what’s right for your skin.

Pure oils of natural, organic origin will not only add a beautiful scent to the beauty product but will also deliver extraordinary benefits to your skin. I would always encourage people to look for the benchmark stamp Ecocert, Biocert or BIO/Cosmebio on the products which guarantees that they contain a minimum of 95% of organic ingredients and complies with strict rules and regulations. Educating yourself on what is good for your skin and your body is essential.

“I THINK WHAT’S REALLY IMPORTANT IS THAT WE DON’T GET TOO DISTRACTED, OBSESSED OR FEEL LIKE WE HAVE TO LOOK A CERTAIN WAY BASED ON WHAT SOCIETY CLAIMS TO BE THE NORM.”

We need to know this perception of beauty simply isn’t real. The most attractive quality about someone is their individuality, and what stands out to me when it comes to beauty is the respect and confidence an individual has for themselves and for others that radiates through them, and their personality shows true beauty on the inside and out. Actually, looking younger is the easy part. Who doesn’t want to feel younger?

My view is that nothing can stop the aging process, so why try to fight a loosing battle. However, it is really important we feel good about ourselves, and that means - self care. The aging process starts at the age of 23, and from this age onward it is just as important to prevent damage to your skin as it is to treat your skin.

My response to a client who said to me : ‘It’s too late, the damage is done!’, is that it’s never too late. Providing you put in the actions necessary to make the change happen.

If you lack caring for your skin and get cosmetic procedures, you will not look well. If you continue to get cosmetic procedures, in time you will create a stretched, false look to your appearance that will later affect how you look, and you may start to not feel yourself because of these changes. I have seen too many people over the years to have not seen this.

“THE TRUEST WORDS IN BEAUTY ARE ‘LESS IS MORE’ AND ‘TO BE THE BEST IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY, YOU NEED TO KNOW WHEN TO STOP’.”

“CARE FOR THE INSIDE AND CARE ON THE OUTSIDE WILL ALWAYS GIVE YOU THE BEST POSSIBLE RESULTS.”

I feel the emphasis needs to be put on how you can help your body and organs to stay healthy. Just like you pay attention to what you eat, you should be exercising how you concentrate on keeping your mind healthy and happy: controlling stress and giving your body what it needs as opposed to subjecting your body to what it doesn’t need or want.

That is no different to treating your skin - your largest organ - with the upmost respect, too. Just like certain foods stand out to help balance hormones, there are specific ingredients in skincare that slow down the process of ageing, making us feel better on the inside and out, and making it a two way stream.

From my experience in the industry, I consider the following ingredients and actions to stand out on top:

I would always put more emphasis on exfoliating your skin both at home and in salon treatments as this is mostly needed as you get older.

Choosing to use a serum and/or nighttime mask on top of your skincare regime of cleansing, toning and moisturising is stepping your skincare regime up. You will start noticing a larger improvement to your skin and it is 100% recommended.

Lactic acid is my favourite in salon peel as it is so gentle you can use in conjunction with another exfoliant making the exfoliating factor double effective.

Topically, the use of organic minerals, Octapeptides, antioxidants A, E and C, plant qualities of vitamins and minerals, proteins and stem cells, specifically stand out on top and are incredibly effective for looking younger. A mineral (organic form) sun protection 30+ is of equal importance and should be applied last before makeup.

Only one small catch to mentioning these ingredients: all products, in my opinion, have to be of organic origin, toxic and chemical free - because quality is everything and equals results.
